If you haven’t been to Honor yet – you’re missing out. But no worries! The studio has only been there for about a year, so sometimes it takes a while for word to get out about awesome stuff these days.

I learned about Honor Movement Studios because I follow several local yoga teachers on social media who teach there, so I figured I would check it out. The website stood out too because it’s gorgeous and I adored the mission statement:

We are dedicated to offering strong yet accessible movement. Classes that will challenge and/or support you. Classes that range from a blissful sweat fest to soothing restorative, and really convenient class times, we meet you where you are.

Honor was having a sweet new member special deal so I jumped right in after the first class because it was so incredible.

The first class I took was Honor Method Sculpt with Shannon, and she kicked my ass. I loved the sculpt class because we used sliders, resistance bands, and weights to work on our strength, blended with yoga. Shannon’s creative routine kept us on our toes, but she led us through the movements with genuine encouragement right along side us. We sweat, we laughed, we released endorphins to an amazing playlist.

Finally, Shannon is one of the most authentic teachers I’ve met so far in this journey within the Maine world of wellness. The way she ended class that first day stood out to me. It wasn’t curated. It was straight from her heart. She told us we were badasses for showing up. She swore in shavasana!

I was binging yoga classes and studios at the time to get my resume out and that was a long time coming and much needed gentle reminder that yoga does not need to be SO serious. It’s fun and awesome and we are all badasses for making time for ourselves.

During that 2 week time period I took every type of class Honor offers except the dance fit fusion. The studio is stunning and the community vibe that you feel is undeniable. If you’re looking for a tribe – I say check this one out for sure.

And just before you do, meet the owner and creator of this fabulous space, Shannon.

Name: Shannon Osborne

Location: Portland, Maine

Occupation: Owner of Honor Movement Studios

Age: 30

Instagram: @itsshannonosborne

Random item in your bag right now?: I pretty notoriously carry around multiple books with me. More than likely a personal development book, and an anatomy/yoga book.

On her nightstand: Palo Santo, Crystals, my journal and CBD muscle rub. AAAAND maybe a hidden stash of dark chocolate. Maybe.

What books to you always recommend people read? You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero

What does your self care/love routine look like? NAPS. Honestly – sleep is some deep self-care for me right now. I’m not getting as much as I like at the moment, so when the opportunity for a nap comes around, I go all out. Guilt-free! I’ve also developed a really solid meditation practice over that last year and a half – it’s like a tether.

Describe your fitness/movement routine in one sentence: I’m in the best shape of my life right now and I contribute it to my obsessively curated mix of HIIT, barre, and yoga. I take two mandatory rest days a week, but those other 5 days a week, it’s not a full day until I can break a sweat and get those endorphins flowing.

Are you more of a hunter or gatherer?
You’re new to the crayon box, what color would you be?
Any earth tone. I am not the neon type!
Favorite vacation spot in Maine?
Our lakehouse 🙂
Favorite foodies spot in Maine?
I love Woodford Food & Beverage and The Treehouse – both in our neighborhood!
Favorite Maine activity?
Hiking, bird watching, and foraging!
What do you usually think about in the car?
Probably about what I’m making for dinner.
Favorite season?
Summer. Always.
Go-to coffee shop order?
Cold brew or a dirty chai.
Go-to Ben and Jerry’s ice cream flavor?
Dairy Free Cherry Garcia. It’s so bomb!
If you could do anything right now what would it be?
Travel. Peru, Portugal and Japan are on our list!

The last gift you gave someone? I bought my boyfriend a pair of shorts from Shift last week!

What were you like in highschool? Oopf. So timid. I was pretty ruthlessly bullied in high school.

What TV/movie character would you be & why? I have a secret obsession with Kung Fu movies and looove Yu Shu Lien from Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. She’s a badass!

If you had all the money, what type of vacation would you plan? 3 months of carefree gallivanting through Asia. Laos + Vietnam especially!

Words that inspire you today: Alignment!

What are you working on in your free time?
I have a couple really fun projects in the works! In my free time I’m getting ready to start a personal training certification.
How many time a day do you type something into Google?
A thousand.
How long have you been in the wellness business?
As my side hustle: 5 years. As my career: 1 year!
When do you feel the most successful?
There’s a moment maybe 10-15 minutes into class when the energy shifts. The day kind of melts away and people tune into their breath and just get really present. You can feel the shift. Delivering that moment for a room full of people makes me feel successful.
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
My studio! Honor is my pride and joy.
What challenges haves you faced getting to where you are now?
Doubting myself, without question. I spent way too long stifling the voice inside that was PLEADING with me to take the first step. Any first step! I let my inner critic dictate my experience for a decade. Giving myself a little bit of credit changed, (and continues to change) my life.
What advice would you give women who want to enter the wellness & health industry?
Maybe the most cliche and played out advice – but it’s the damn truth: Just. Be. Yourself. And that means really getting to know yourself, digging deep and getting really clear about your goals. And, be easy about it.

Be flexible in your approach, but steadfast in your vision.

Best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
Trust your gut.

Shannon, thank you for your authenticity and realness in person. It is seriously more refreshing than I can begin to explain.
I’m also crazy excited to announce that because of my love for this studio, I was able to book Shannon to teach:

The first is Saturday, October 20th and you can register here.

The second is Saturday October 27th and you can register here.
