Holly is part of the original Breathing Room group that welcomed me with open arms into their community. I’ll am continuously grateful for her kindness and smiles.

She was also the very first yoga class I took immediately after finishing my yoga teacher training. I was (and still am) viewing yoga classes in a completely new lens than before.

I’ve started noticing smart sequencing and teachers that know their shit. Holly knows her shit. Her yoga class was special to me because I adored how unique it felt. The way she led the class was authentic and intelligent. I will never teach a class like her, and that’s the beauty of the wellness world. We all have our own flavor, and Holly’s is mellow, warm, and a little tricky. She sneaks in her anatomy knowledge and you walk away very trusting in her ability to always lead you through a great class. That was just my experience after her first class – I should probably take another one!

What does your self care/love routine look like? 

My self-care routine has changed so much since having a baby (my little one is just about six months) – I used to be very focused on my own self-care: I would start each morning with a warm cup of water + lemon, gentle yoga (home practice) and a short meditation, throw in some regular body work (acupuncture or massage), lots of sleep, etc. etc.

These days, self-care looks really different. My morning ritual consists of waking and feeding baby, chugging a cup of luke warm water followed by a big mug of coffee. I try to move on my mat at home when I can, either while baby sleeps or while he practices his own yoga (aka tummy time) but it is not as scheduled as it once was. I just had my first massage since giving birth and my body was so knotted – an hour was not nearly enough time. I feel lucky when I can take a long, hot shower in peace and sleep 5-6 hours in a row. I think it is important to be honest about how much this has changed because, frankly, it is reality. I know how important self-care is and I can feel the drain on my energy as I learn to balance motherhood and my own wellness. I also know it will shift, and shift again – these are life’s ebbs and flows.

Just because I am a “wellness person” does not mean I am immune to them.

Describe your fitness/movement routine in one sentence: I teach at three different studios and love taking classes at each. I try to get to class a couple of times of week, and bounce around between each location. When I can’t make it to class, I do my best to move on my mat at home. I also love to walk the beach with baby M and my sweet dog, Lu.

What are you working on in your free time?
What’s this “free time” you speak of? Kidding aside – free time is a combination of baby and husband loving, trying to keep my house clean, and building my empire.
How long have you been in the wellness business?
5 years.
When do you feel the most successful?
I feel the most successful when I teach a class and my students tell me how good they feel after, or that something finally clicked for them. My job is to help people feel good in their bodies and I try to do this through observing the room and offering clear, concise instruction to the people who chose to show up. If I can do that – I feel successful.
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
Finally figuring out how to combine my passion for wellness with my professional knowledge and experience. This year I took the leap of faith and left my 9-5 marketing job and started my own business, Mindwell Marketing. Mindwell Marketing is the love child of my three “worlds” – wellness, marketing and event planning.
My mission is to help small businesses create and implement marketing solutions that are clear, original and in alignment with their mission.
I feel strongly that, especially in the wellness world, if you are crystal clear with your messaging and mindful in your approach, your people will find you and they will keep coming back for more. The wellness industry is BOOMING and we all have such unique offerings to heal this world, my job is to help businesses communicate those offerings in a way that is simple, relatable and consistently on-brand. The first step is often defining what that is! So far, business is slowly building and I’m happy to be able to choose projects that I resonate with. I think 2019 is going to be very telling for my business, and I’m excited.
What advice would you give women who want to enter the wellness & health industry?
1. Do you.
2. Know WHY you’re saying WHAT you’re saying.
3. It’s okay to change your mind.
What has been your favorite continuing education, certification or training?
I get most excited about studying anatomy and applying my knowledge to my sequencing and cueing. I have very much enjoyed studying with Doug Keller and I look forward to an upcoming training I am registered for with Leslie Howard on yoga for the pelvic floor. I also geek out on digital marketing podcasts constantly.
Best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
If it doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t.
