I became really inspired to write this after a lecture with my Hungry for Happiness crew. I sensed the self care was slipping. The pressure is on as my group transitions into the pro bono coaching phase! People are having imposter syndrome. “Who am I to transform a women’s life through how she thinks about food and her body?” It makes sense. But the whole time I was thinking – these ladies need a gentle reminder that self care, doing something simply to feel good, and not constantly grinding or meditating our way out of shit, needs to be a priority too. I’ve noticed that when my body and mind relaxes, so do my fears.

Does that resonate with you? Maybe not the meditating your way out, but the constant grind? The hustle that can get the better of us come January when we’re trying to work for our worth and reach those “goals”?
So I thought I would share my self care routines with you. Hoping that you lean into the idea that self care is literally anything you do to feel good and hit the energy or emotional refresh button. I most definitely don’t do all of these every day. But I do at least one. Ideally, something that soothes me morning, midday, and night – if I can fit it in. My morning is most important because it sets me up for the day.
I have an incredible amount on energy. So the things I do for self-care need to be soothing and calming, not something that gets me more “amped up” if that makes sense. This might be different for you.
In the morning I move & meditate. I LOVE AloMoves. I ask my body how it feels and it tells me, I find a yoga flow that I am drawn to and do it. I follow this with meditation & hot lemon water. I love taking deep breaths of an oil from the DoTerra yoga collection after waking up or meditating. The lemon water is helping me cut down to one cup of coffee a day!
Midday or at any time that I need to “nourish myself” I will burn incense / candles, drink tea, read a book or some poetry. For me, learning about things I am passionate about is very healthy. The three books I’m loving right now is The Everyday Ayurveda Cookbook, Women Who Run with the Wolves, and The Spirit Almanac.
The wolf in me sometimes just needs a walk and fresh air – and in that case I head to the beach and always pause to listen to the waves. Staring at the horizon makes me feel expansive: energetically and creatively – always.
Sometime driving in the car is my moment of self care. I love getting inspired on a drive by a podcast. I’m sharing the five podcasts I listen to all the time in my next post!
Another great self care tool: dance parties to a sick playlist. Here is my Spotify if ya need it. Move that energy and allow yourself to let loose, have fun, and don’t take whatever you’re consumed with TOO seriously. (I need to take my own advice on this one!)
Evening routines are sacred and vary on bed time, which depends on my teaching schedule. I typically have tea and treat myself to some “spa” treatment. Tea, a charcoal face mask and journaling about my day is sweet. 2-3 times a week after I shower I spend a little time with my gua sha stone or face roller. This feels great and my skin is noticeably less puffier!
If I’ve had a challenging day and I find myself ruminating on a particular interaction, setback, or moment, I’ll tap it out if I think it’s distracting me. Distracting for me means over thinking, replaying the moment, over consumed by what someone thinks of me, feeling anxious about the result…etc, but at the end of the day, which it is literally, you can’t change what happened. You gotta accept it. Dude, tapping it out is REAL.

Finally – my try and true self care technique: sleep. There is literally nothing like 7 hours to set you right and give you a fresh perspective on things.
I hope this was a romantic post. Very winter of me. Come April I’ll be stir crazy kickboxing in my living room. But this feels good to me now.
I mentioned this in my Instagram post – but my commitment to self care really got started when I started living alone and I asked for space from my mom. I had to mother myself. I really committed to that because there was a hole in me. That’s the way it felt. I grew up being touched, snuggled, kissed every night and I miss it so much. So, these are the things I’m substituting with for now. Until that man of mine gets up the courage to move in and then I can go back to the way things were. Hah!
Always a mix of silly, sad, honest, educational, and inspiring. I hope you take this as a sweet invitation to spend time doing things that make you feel good this weekend.
