Danielle Kroot – Physical Therapist, Running & Triathlon Coach

I met Danielle at a networking event for wellness professionals a couple of months ago. Her kindness was so genuine, and she was sitting right next to me, and we started chatting of course!

She was so easy to speak to and we talked just about the basics – like where we came from and how we ended up in the room. She also lingered at the event just like me – eager to make connections and walk away with a hopeful lead on some new partnership. I think we both saw a little of the same in each other – persistent to successfully navigate the booming wellness world in Maine.

Danielle jumped from Boston to Portland to start her own running performance business. As I was reading her answers – I was immediately inspired by her! Seriously, she is so positive, down to earth and her fearlessness emits from her answers.

I can tell she is a coach. She makes you feel comfortable in your own skin. She owns hers and she wants to help you own yours. I love it. Truly empowering.

What does your self care/love routine look like? I try to get 1 massage a month, 1 pedicure a month, morning meditation

Describe your fitness/movement routine in one sentence: A combination of strength training, running, swimming, biking and yoga. The focus of each varies depending on the time of year.

Growing my business and my reputation in the Portland area. Soon I will start gearing up for Boston Marathon Training!

How long have you been in the wellness business?
5 years.
Can you describe how your career in health & wellness start?
I graduated from Doctor of Physical Therapy school and 2013 and that’s when it all started. It has evolved since then and I am now a certified running and triathlon coach, and am dry needling certified.
When do you feel the most successful?
When I can help someone else reach their goals whether its from a performance standpoint of just being able to do a daily task without pain.
What is one challenge you faced getting to where you are now?
Moving to Portland and opening up a new business in an area where no one knows you …yet has posed it’s challenges. I moved from Boston where I had worked for 5 years and had established a reputation in the area especially with the running community. I look forward to moving past this challenge and getting my name out there and being Portland’s top resource for runners and triathletes.
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
Professionally, starting my own business. I never thought I would be in the position I am today as a business owner. Athletically, completing my first Half Ironman triathlon in 2017.
What advice would you give women who want to enter the wellness & health industry?
What are you waiting for?! If you find something that you love and are passionate about that you can turn into your career then don’t doubt yourself for a minute. It takes patience and dedication but you find a way to make it happen!
What has been your favorite continuing education, certification or training?
I was fortunate enough to do a remote mentorship with a physical therapist and performance coach out in Seattle named Chris Johnson. The time spent talking with him and absorbing all that he has to offer about managing running related injuries was invaluable. This mentorship catapulted my passion for specializing working with runners and triathletes.
Best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
Never settle for less.

I won’t be running marathons anytime soon, but hopefully I’ll be seeing you at the Portland Sweat Project or the Runaways Run Club. It’s been a goal of mine to do more social exercise. Now I know I’ll have one friend in the gang!
